Title: Transcription
Publication Date: 2021
Description: Transcription in the context of natural science collections means to make information from old specimen labels, field books, catalogues, correspondence, or other handwritten texts accessible by transcribing it into human and machine readable text. Museum volunteers or other citizen scientists are often involved transcription projects. In some cases, OCR programmes may be used as well but usually quality control and data cleaning will be necessary. A transcript can also provide the text from an audio or video file.
